I don’t know about you, but I get this curious feeling of hunger sometimes. Strange, right?! It’s no problem when you’re in your home country or home town because you know where to go and, most importantly, where not to go. Anyway. It’s time to confess…I think I have a Sushi addiction. I love love love it! And whenever I am somewhere else, I get curious as to how it tastes, how they make it and what kinds they have. Utrecht is a sweet little city that has a couple Sushi places. All in all, it seems many Dutch people eat the Japanese specialty because I’ve seen Sushi almost everywhere I go. Even the Albert Heijn has sets in its store. I didn’t want to start off with something disappointing, so I asked a local where I can eat the good quality kind:
Sushi Restaurant Kyushu
3512 AS Utrecht
Phone: 030 – 234 36 30
And they were right.
Kyushu opened its doors in 2007 and is one of the most popular Sushi places in Utrecht. They pride themselves with providing you with the highest quality in town. You can eat there between 1pm and 10pm (Sunday 2pm-10pm), but they also have a delivery service. You can also order online. Order for over 40€ and you get two drinks for free or over 80€ and you get a whole bottle of wine. You can also order easily with their app. Yes, they even have an app for both apple and android phones. It’s all in dutch as far as I’m concerned, but you can’t really make mistakes with a translator. If you’re a Sushiholic like me and you are familiar with the japanese terms of the fish sorts and such, you’ll know you’re way around the menu anyway. 🙂
The first time eating there, I chose my classic compilation of cucumber maki and salmon nigir and added a salmon roe one as well. You may also want to try the organic apple juice, which was really nice too. Their cucumber was fresh and crisp and the consistency of the salmon was great. Another time I ordered a different set of Sushi/Maki with Futo Makis with salmon roe (of which there was enough on it!). From what I tasted in avocados in their Makis, I can tell they know when it’s ripe and good to enjoy. Perhaps I’ve been nice with my orders or something but they added one sample of another maki in my box for free.
I can’t exactly tell what it was, except for avocado and cucumber, but it also had sesame around it and maybe the light brown/peach thing in it was tuna. If you know, I’d appreciate your guess!
Whatever it was, it was delicious. I think I would eat anything they gave me without questioning it. Because they won my trust in what they do and how they make it.
Definitely go and order/eat there! I really, really liked it. If you order a take-away or a choose a delivery, they are pretty generous with providing you with wasabi and ginger. 😀
